The 3rd International Ibsen Conference in China - Wuhan May 2005

"We arrived in Wuhan on Friday 13th May 2005, after travelling for almost 24 hours. We were almost as excited as we were exhausted. We found our names printed in the program in both English and Chinese. It was fascinating to learn how popular Ibsen is in China, so popular that they learn about him in school, alongside with Shakespeare. An important thing to learn as a Norwegian is actually to find out how highly Ibsen is thought after by so many countries worldwide.

The name of our presentation was "A Hidden Treasure". The reason for this is that Ibsen is mostly known for his plays and not for his poetry, so Terje Vigen we hope would catch interest as a piece by Ibsen not very many had heard of. And we where right!

To make a long story short, our presentation of Terje Vigen, the important values addressed in the poem, and the music we presented caught the interest from everyone present, ranging from students to professors from all over the world!

China is a large market which we very much hope to explore further. We really hope to bring Terje Vigen to China sometime in 2006. With the help and the enthusiasm that we have met so far, we are very much looking forward to continue our conversation with all the many interesting people we met during the conference and our stay in China.

We would like to give a big thank you to the organisers of the event, for a well executed and successful conference."
